1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using virust ("the Service"), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

virust is an independent interface that queries the VirusTotal public API to provide reputation information about file hashes, URLs, domains, and IP addresses. virust is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by VirusTotal or Google.

The Service computes file hashes (SHA-256, SHA-1) in your browser. Files are never uploaded to our servers. Only the hash value is transmitted to perform lookups.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You may not:

Use the Service to distribute malware, phishing links, or other harmful content
Attempt to bypass rate limits or abuse the Service
Scrape or automated-query the Service at volumes that degrade performance
Misrepresent the Service as VirusTotal or imply affiliation
Use the Service to harass, threaten, or harm others

4. Rate Limits

The Service enforces a rate limit of 3 lookups per 15 minutes per IP address. This limit is designed to preserve the VirusTotal free API quota (500 requests/day). Exceeding this limit will result in a 429 response.

5. Intellectual Property

virust is an independent project. VirusTotal and its logo are trademarks of Google LLC. The detection data, engine names, and verdicts displayed by the Service are sourced from the VirusTotal API and remain the property of their respective owners.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Detection results are informational only and do not constitute a guarantee of safety.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, virust and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.

8. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Use at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
